Membership
Join the Chapter
Life membership is $50. You pay it once and never again. In-country service is not required.
Who can join
Membership is open to any service member who served during the Vietnam era. Where you served does not matter. As the chapter’s membership director puts it:
It does not matter whether they served in-country or elsewhere. Someone had to keep the bullets flowing and the Russians out of Europe. We have two members who served on missile crews in Germany. Admiral Zumwalt, deceased, was a member even after he moved to North Carolina. Our ranks range from privates to a three-star general and admiral.

The chapter itself serves more broadly than it recruits: it helps homeless and needy veterans across Northern Virginia, not only Vietnam veterans.
What it costs, and what you get

Life membership — a single payment, no additional fees ever

- Nine dinner meetings a year with a speaker, open to spouses and guests
- A vote in chapter elections at the April annual meeting

Enclose a check made out to Vietnam Veterans of America, or fill in the credit card section on the application itself.

Include a copy of your DD214
You may black out your Social Security number.

He processes the application and tracks it through VVA headquarters.

Come to a meeting first
You are welcome at a meeting before you join anything. Come for dinner, hear the speaker, and see whether the room suits you.
Membership meetings
Third Thursday of the month
Nine meetings a year — none in July or August
Running order
- 5:30 pm Cash bar opens
- 6:15 pm Dinner served
- 7:00 pm Meeting and guest speaker
Anyone is welcome, including spouses and guests. You do not have to be a member to come to a meeting.

Chapter members staff tables out in the community through the year.
Mission BBQ veteran days
Chapter teams staff four Mission BBQ restaurants on days when the restaurant gives veterans a free sandwich.
Tank Farm open house
The chapter exhibits at the National Museum of Americans in Wartime annual open house — more than 150 combat vehicles and around 20,000 visitors over two days.
