Associates of Vietnam Veterans of America
You do not have to have served to serve. AVVA is open to anyone — spouses, family, friends and neighbors — who works toward the same goals.
The Associates of Vietnam Veterans of America is a catalyst for action, healing, support and fellowship alongside VVA. There are 10,400 members across the country.
AVVA is non-partisan and is a non-profit organization. The most significant advantage it has is that it is made up of veterans and non-veterans from all walks of life, working together for common goals. Because of that status, Congress listens to their individual views on pending and suggested veterans legislation.
One of AVVA’s main concerns is that all veterans know, understand and have clear access to the information they need and the benefits they have earned through service to their country.
What AVVA does in Chapter 227
-
The Lamb Center
AVVA supports and helps fund The Lamb Center in Fairfax, a day shelter for homeless veterans and other homeless men and women who need clothing, food and daily necessities. Cash and household goods are collected at every monthly meeting.
-
Looking after our own
Condolence cards for members who have died, and get-well cards for those in rehabilitation or unwell and in need of cheering up.
-
The greeting table
AVVA members staff the welcome table at the monthly dinner meetings, and work with the club manager on the menu.
-
Representation
The chapter representative attends every board meeting and dinner meeting, plus VVA national conventions, regional conferences and state meetings, sharing ideas with other VVA and AVVA members.
-
Fellowship
Spouses and friends gather for the chapter birthday and community events, and AVVA decorates for the annual Holiday Party.
-
Whatever else is needed
Arranging chapter speakers when asked, and any other task the chapter needs doing.
In AVVA we attempt to improve the lives, in some small way, of our chapter veterans and their families. Being an AVVA member is an honor and a privilege we all have, for those who have served and are serving.
